What is ShapeBook?ShapeBook is a structural steel shape size reference software tool with dimensions, design properties, 3-key search, material lists with pricing, and dynamic 2D & 3D steel shapes modeling in AutoCAD. We created a versatile productivity tool for commercial and industrial steel design, engineering, estimating, detailing, fabrication, and erection. ShapeBook is based on the AISC Steel Construction Manual 13th Edition. In addition we have added large pipe sizes, small bar size materials, plate, flat bar, round bar, and square bar. ShapeBook is a powerful structural steel estimating and quick reference tool for steel industry professionals and students. Dimensions and design properties are displayed in ShapeBooks' corresponding display tabs. ShapeBook uses AISC criteria for determining the approximate detailing dimensions in fractional inches.
Design properties are shown in decimal format according to the tool tip definition available by hovering over any of the values. ShapeBook is a powerful estimating tool for estimating the cost of steel, and coatings.
The Calculator Material List extends the weight, surface area, and pricing (price per pound or kilogram) and (price per square foot or square meter of surface area). You use the weight and surface area calculator on the selected shape by entering the quantity, length, weight price, surface price, and clicking the 'Calculate' button. Total weight and surface area are displayed and if the 'Add to Calculator Material List' check box is checked the entry is added or inserted into your Calculator Material List. Total weight, total surface area, total price per pound or kilogram, and total price per square foot or meter of surface area are displayed on the totals line at the bottom of the list. The totals line is updated instantly with any change that you make to the material list. The calculator material list items can be easily modified as needed. This tab supports multiple line hover selection similar to Windows Explorer.
List items can be re-priced, inserted, deleted, sorted, or dragged to a new location. Clicking on any column title will do an alphabetical sort using the selected column. Lists can be saved to files on your hard drive and loaded back into ShapeBook or imported into spreadsheet or database software. List files can be opened in any text editor and material in one list can be cut and pasted to another and then loaded back into ShapeBook with all line numbers and totals updated. A Print Calc List command prints the list with a user title, date, page numbers, line numbers, and includes column and row outlines. A hierarchical shape selection list allows you to open and close groups of shape names, based on shape type, and the depth & weight/width properties. You can scroll up and down through the open groups and select a shape by clicking on any shape name in the list.
Each selection is displayed and added to your shape selection list. Shape selection lists can be saved to a file, and the current list and shape selection can be automatically saved when you exit and then automatically restored the next time you run ShapeBook. Your shape selection list and the currently selected shape are automatically converted to metric or US imperial units whenever the units mode is changed. You can search and select shapes using up to 3 search keys, each with a separate property with minimum and maximum values. It can be used to find a set of available shape sizes that fit within your search parameters. ShapeBook includes a US imperial to metric cross reference chart and you can view the raw US imperial or metric AISC database data for reference.
ShapeBook has a new toolbar command that windows task switches to the last application to have focus. This allows you to switch back to the last application you were using in one mouse click. 2D3DSteel For AutoCAD2D3DSteel is an AutoCAD application that parametrically draws and models steel shapes. It includes many specialized tools for drawing and dimensioning steel. 2D3DSteel will run in any version of Full AutoCAD. It will not run on the LT versions of AutoCAD.
All of the shapes available in ShapeBook can be quickly and accurately added to your CAD drawings. Using 2D3DSteel with AutoCAD, you will have powerful drawing tools to quickly and accurately draw steel details, connections, and model structural steel framing.
2D3DSteel has pull-down menus and 7 tool bars. 2D3DSteel now includes automatic setup.
Just add the application to your startup suite and your ready to go. 2D3DSteel Features:.Compatible with Windows 7 through 10 and AutoCAD 2000 through 2018.2D3DSteel Main tool bar has six fly out tool bar buttons on it providing access to all of 2D3DSteels' commands on one tool bar to save screen space if needed.2D3DSteel Settings tool bar controls 2D3DSteel layers, linetypes, centerline modes, node point modes, and dimension text lock colors. This toolbar has two commands for saving and restoring your object snap settings. It also includes commands for fast centerline and node point mode changes.2D3DSteel Shape tool bar commands draw the shape selected in the ShapeBook dialog as 3DSolids, 2D Cross sections, and 2D Web and Flange Views. New cope commands draw a cope pline that can be used as the end of a 2D member or to cope a 3DSolid.2D3DSteel Lines tool bar is a powerful set of tools for line work in your drawings. Line commands for the 2D3DSteel object lines, hidden lines, centerlines, and dimension lines. Line commands can also be used to quickly change to a 2D3DSteel layer/linetype setting.
All of the commands in 2D3DSteel except for these line commands save and restore your current layer and linetype settings. Commands on this toolbar include drawing offset rows of centerlines, centered rows of centerlines, centerlines at equal spacing, centerlines at maximum spacing, and an intelligent handrail picket tool.2D3DSteel Holes tool bar has four types of 2D holes, round holes, edge holes, slotted holes, and elliptical holes.
Each of these four types can be drawn filled, open, or hidden. 3D Hole command is used to add holes in 3DSolids and the Polyline cut command can change any shape created with a closed polyline into a cut out in a 3DSolid with a specified depth. Two bolt group commands draw a single row of holes and a double row of holes.2D3DSteel Dimension toolbar includes a transparent command for fast 10 key XX.YYZZ feet, inches, and sixteenths input at any AutoCAD distance prompt, a transparent command for metric input in millimeters at any AutoCAD distance prompt. Special dimensioning commands for horizontal or vertical dimensions with automatic.Y &.X point filters to quickly line up dimension rows, rotated dimension commands that remember your rotation angle, and commands to lock and unlock associative dimension text with text color id for easy member shortening and un-shortening.2D3DSteel Plate tool bar has five commands for drawing 2D plates are used in addition to the commands on the 2D3DSteel Shape tool bar.2D3DSteel Drawing Settings are stored in your drawing and are used automatically from drawing to drawing. The default value is 0 for all dimensional input entries that are encountered for the first time. 2D3DSteel saves all of your dimensional input entries.
The saved value is offered as the default value for that command input entry until it is changed. All of the default values are automatically saved and then restored in your next AutoCAD session. What this means is, once you enter a hole diameter or slot length etc. That will be the value used when you hit return for the prompts for those dimensions the next time you use that command. If you change a value, that will be the next default value for that prompt.Using AutoCAD with 2D3DSteel, you will have the tools to accurately draw or model 2D and 3D structural steel framing and connections.
You can use 2D3DSteel to draw your sections and details or to draw structural 3D models using 3D solids created by 2D3DSteel and ShapeBook. Please Note: The procedure for adding 2D3DSteel to your AutoCAD Startup Suite is documented in the ShapeBook help and read me files. A link to 2D3DSteel setup instructions will be in the ShapeBook Start Button folder.
We have also included the procedure on our more current web page.
